Mathematics Songs at Inspired Teaching School

Had a great time at Inspired Teaching Demonstration School in Washington DC! Our fearless leader Ms Jones primed two grade 5 classes to write some great parodies!

MATH POWER!
Written by Fifth Grade Flamingos - parody of Sunflower - Topic: long division
Produced by Alden Phelps and Ms. Jones

Verse 1: Divisor Livin’ outside the wall
Dividend inside heedin’ its call
Build it already please don’t stall
Quotient is waiting please don’t stall

Verse 2 :
Thinking like a raceway, losing my grip
5 10 15 , Man I’m lit !
Used my skip count to solve it ,
Find the one that got the right fit.

Pre-chorus:
Ooh-ooh
When you got lots of pop-tarts
Now I gotta use my smarts
Divide them all into parts

Chorus :
You have a big number
Divide into parts
Divisors how much
That you have in each bunch
Quotient wraps it up
It’s the answer that’s enough
It’s long division
We’re Break’n it up

Verse 3:
First you multiply divisor
By the number on the top
Do it right and you’ll be wiser
subtract the min u end ,  don't   stop

VERSE 4:
Every time I get to class
I can hear you tellin’ me to divide that
Using inverse to check my math
On my knees hoping that my answers match

Pre chorus 2
I know your at the grocery store
You can't divide it all alone
don't know how much roomie should pay
To multiply is not the way

Chorus :
You have a big number
Divide them into parts
Divisors how much
That you have in each bunch
Quotient wraps it up
It’s the answer that’s enough
It’s long division
We’re Break’n it up

Fraction Apocalypse
Written by Fifth Grade Flamingos - parody of Radioactive - Topic: fractions
Produced by Alden Phelps and Ms. Jones

I’m waking up, I’ve got a test
And I know I’m gonna do my best
I’ve gotta convert my fraction
Yayyy (sarcastically)
The fractions bar, it separates
The whole and the parts, ain't no debate
When I learn, gotta take it slow
Whoa

It's in my mind it's in my head and soul
The top is how much you can hold
The bottom is how much you need, how much you need
The bottom is how much you need, for a whole
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, these are the actions
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, with no distractions

Operations, you gotta be patient
Get it wrong there's no vacation
Addition, gets numbers real big
Whoa
Multiply the simplify
To identify like a private eye
Butterfly, that's how you divide
Whoa

The numerator is goes really high
It sits on top of the fraction line
The denominator, it goes way under
The denominator, it goes way under
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, these are the actions
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, with no distractions

That mini pie, needs ½ cup strawberries
Measure it right, or else you won't be pleased

You really need equivalent fraction
For addition, subtraction
Bro these are the fraction, yo the fractions
Of addition and sub, and subtraction
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, these are the actions
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We're learning fractions, with no distractions
