Emma K Doub ES 2012
Found some lost lyrics from Emma K Doub
I’m about to start a new residency at this excellent school in Hagerstown, and I found some past student lyrics I failed to put on this blog, so here they are. They’re from 2012 when the students were studying geology. We used Beat It, Never Say Never, What Makes You Beautiful for our parody songs.
Dig it (Parody of Beat It, Mrs. Fochtman’s class)
Rocks and minerals come from all over the place
Rivers, mountains, oceans, every landscape
Statues are soapstone and limestone too
So dig it, just dig it
I better grab my tools and run outside
If I forget my pick it wouldn’t be so wise
I use my hand lens to classify
Just view it, I’m a geologist
Refrain:
Just dig it, grab it, view it, test it
Use the Moh’s scale, don’t guess it
Scratch them together, reveal what’s inside
Rocks and minerals, they’re easy to find.
So dig it, just dig it
Dig it, just dig it
Ship Rock’s in New Mexico, it’s made of minette
It was a volcano now it’s not a threat
The lava’s all dried up and there’s no more magma left
So test it, just test it
You better run and grab a diamond right now
It’s so hard and shiny that you will be wowed
Minerals are gemstones and you dig them from the ground
So grab ‘em, Cuz they’re not just talc
Dig Rocks Forever
(parody of Never Say Never by Mrs. Baumgardner’s class)
I never thought that I could break a rock
I never thought I’d see a mineral
I got ‘em with my pickaxe on my walk
Until I couldn’t find another crystal
And there’s more than just one part
When you’re taking it to heart
Gonna measure what’s inside
Tons of minerals
refrain:
I will dig rocks forever
I will smash them together
Wherever minerals hide
I will find them inside
Dig it up
Dig it up
Dig it up
Dig it up up up
And find them forever
Find them forever
Find them forever
I’m a rock
Please get this fossil out of me
I’m a very old skeleton
Dig me up please
I help the scientist
So now I understand
That I’m a mineral
I came from the land
Now rocks are harder than me
Fatter than me
Prettier than me
But they ain’t in a R.O.C.K. song with me
I grabbed my materials
To break the minerals
I studied ‘em and
Measured ‘em
And then I classified ‘em
So now I’m done diggin’
And my thumbs ain’t numb
And my pinkie is missin’
But I ain’t so dumb (I’m smart!)
Your Love’s Like a Lava Flow
(parody of What Makes You Beautiful by Ms. Riley’s class)
You’re a rock
My way is blocked
I’m diggin’ down but all I found is chalk
Lookin’ for gems
Diggin’ for gold
Been here so long that I’m catching a cold
Geologist’s use a hammer and pickaxe
Hand lens and microscope
refrain:
Baby you rock my world like a volcano blast
And your pickaxe puts me in a body cast
But when you measured the mass, I fell so fast
You’re like a peridot
Your love’s like a lava flow
If only you’d cool your love for me
Like basalt makes an island in the sapphire sea
My love’s in the crust of geology
I don’t know, oh oh
Why you’re throwing rocks at me
Oh oh oh
My heart’s like a ruby
Canyons below
Erode so slow
The river flowed
Through a plateau long ago - oh - oh
Stalagmites and stalactites
In the deep, dark caves they hold on tight
Take samples to the laboratory
Break them to see inside
refrain:
Baby you rock my world like a volcano blast
And your pickaxe puts me in a body cast
But when you measured the mass, I fell so fast
You’re like a peridot
Your love’s like a lava flow
If only you’d cool your love for me
Like basalt makes an island in the sapphire sea
My love’s in the crust of geology
I don’t know, oh oh
Why you’re throwing rocks at me
Oh oh oh
My heart’s like a ruby
